KUALA LUMPUR: Solarvest Holdings Bhd has delivered an additional 8.9 Megawatt peak (MWp) solar project to Nibong Tebal Paper Mill Sdn Bhd (NTPM).
The cumulative RM27 million solar project, which commenced operations on Dec 31, 2023, will power NTPM’s facilities across Nibong Tebal, Penang, and Parit Buntar, Perak, respectively.
“With the fully energised project, NTPM would be able to effectively monitor and reduce their carbon emissions, a move that will help the company comply with Bursa Malaysia requirements for listed companies to report on their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions,” it said in a statement today.
Executive director and group chief executive officer Davis Chong Chun Shiong commented that producing paper and packaging is an intensive process with significant energy demands.
“Energy production accounts for over 70 per cent of GHG emissions, making it crucial to explore green options to reach Malaysia’s carbon neutrality goal by 2050. Installing solar panels and implementing carbon accounting measures is currently the most feasible and effective way to decarbonise and evaluate our actions.
“Solarvest has been NTPM’s long-term green energy partner with ongoing collaborations and upcoming project opportunities in the pipeline,” he added. – Bernama
