Sime Darby Property to develop data centre, RM2bil lease value for first 20 years

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has partnered Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd to develop a hyperscale data centre at Elmina Business Park, Selangor.

Pearl Computing is a private limited company incorporated in Malaysia. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Raiden APAC Pte Ltd, a Singapore-incorporated company, and is part of a US-headquartered multinational technology corporation.

Sime Darby Property will holistically manage the design and development of the asset, including infrastructure planning and construction to ensure that the facility is customised according to the lessee’s specifications.

“The project is set to break ground in the second quarter of 2024, with construction completion targeted for 2026.

“On completion, the parties will enter into a 20-year lease valued at up to RM2 billion, with options to renew for two additional five-year terms,” it said in a statement today.

The data centre will be on 19.83 hectares (49 acres) within the 607 ha (1,500 acres) Elmina Business Park.

Sime Darby Property group managing director Datuk Azmir Merican said the project will enable them to broaden its investment and asset management portfolio and align with its strategy to grow a recurring income.

“The facility will elevate Elmina Business Park’s status as a premier industrial location for technology corporations, both local and international,” he said. – Bernama
