Samsung will be ending support for its Tizen-based smartwatches, according to a notice posted via the Galaxy Store, with the first phase of sunsetting starting on September 30 this year.
Following the deadline, the electronics giant will cease sales of content on the Galaxy Store for the wearable operating system, which includes apps and customisable watch faces.
Users will be able to download free content from the platform’s app store until May 31, 2025, while content that was previously purchased from the Galaxy Store can be downloaded through the “My Apps” page until Sept 30, 2025, after which service for Tizen will be terminated.
Both free and paid apps and watch faces can still be used after this point so long as users do not delete them from their devices.
The notice from Samsung also states that all its Watch devices running on Tizen are affected by this change, which includes the Active 1, Active 2, Gear, Watch 1, and Watch 3.
Wearables launched since the Watch 4 do not run on Tizen and will not be affected.
