Following an announcement back in October last year of a slimmer model PlayStation 5 (PS5), Sony has finally confirmed a local launch date of Feb 20 for the new console revision.
Pre-orders for the new PS5 models are currently open, with customers able to choose between the base digital-only console (priced at RM2,069) and one including a Blu-ray disc drive (RM2,499).
There are also separate bundles that include two wireless DualSense controllers for both the digital (RM2,369) and Blu-ray drive equipped (RM2,799) options.
While the Blu-ray drive costs RM529 if bought separately, it is currently not available on Sony’s website.
According to the company, the console revision features a 30% reduction in chassis size from the original model and a larger 1TB (vs 825GB) internal storage drive, with an option to add on a Blu-ray disc drive to the base digital-only model.
The addition will require the purchase of an RM529 Blu-ray disc drive from the company, putting the overall costs higher than the bundle, though the add-on does not appear to be available on the Sony website as of publication.
Another accessory not on the website as of yet is the redesigned vertical stand, which is no longer included with console purchases.
The console will only include a horizontal stand out of the box.
The company previously confirmed that the stand would be priced at RM149 in Malaysia.
Currently, it is uncertain when both accessories will be available in Malaysia.
