Google Wallet now supports Maybank credit and debit cards, offering up to RM10 cashback on first use

Google Wallet has finally added support for Maybank credit and debit cards, now allowing the local bank’s customers to add their banking cards for offline payments via NFC.

Google Wallet can also be used for payments with online platforms that accept it, such as Shopee.

Support for the local bank’s cards was noticeably absent when the contactless mobile payment service arrived on Malaysian shores back in November 2022, with the app only supporting a handful of local participating banks at the time.

According to the list of compatible cards available on the Maybank website, only cards under Visa and Mastercard are compatible with Google Wallet, leaving out those under American Express.

The long-awaited addition also comes alongside a cashback promotion from Maybank on a customer’s first Google Wallet transaction using one of its cards, though this is capped at RM10 per customer.

The cashback promotion will run until July 8 this year. More information about the campaign’s terms and conditions can be found on its FAQ page.
